Background
His educational background is in philosophy as well as music, and he has previously taught at Oxford, Exeter, London (Goldsmiths') and Northampton in the UK. His doctoral research was in French lute-song, and he has published in books, international journals, and the New Grove dictionary of music and musicians. He has been arts correspondent for the journal Economic Affairs and editor of the early music journal The Consort.
Research Interests
Early Music (especially 16th- and 17th-century French music and music for lute and related instruments). The philosophy and political economy of music. Performance on lute and theorbo, particularly continuo.
