Background

Brian Pritchard, has a strong interest in the documentation of New Zealand's music past and established (in 1984) and edits the Canterbury Series of Bibliographies, Catalogues and Source Documents in Music.  In 1972 he was a founding member of the New Zealand branch of the International Association of Music Libraries and has been variously president and editor of the Branch’s journal Crescendo.  In 2001 he awarded honorary life membership for “valued service to music librarianship in New Zealand.”

He has worked extensively on the Italian composer Antonio Caldara (1670-1736) and has prepared numerous editions of sacred and secular music of the late baroque for publication and for performance and recording by specialist groups in England, Europe and in the United States. His writings appear in various international musicological journals and he has contributed to the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, the New Grove Dictionary of Opera, the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography, and the Dictionary of National Biography.
